C Cameron Yin has received her MD from Beijing Medical University and her PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Hematopathology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. In addition to clinical responsibilities on the Leukemia, Lymphoma and Molecular Diagnostic services, she has been actively participating in multiple research projects in the molecular genetic abnormalities in leukemia and lymphoma which has led to over 100 research papers and over 20 book chapters.

Joan-LLuis Vives Corrons is Emeritus Professor of the University of Barcelona and Group Leader of the Rare Anemias Unit at the Institute for Leukaemia Research Josep Carreras in Catalonia. He has been the Head of the Haematology Department at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona from 1976 to 1996, and the founder of the Red Blood Cell Pathology Unit from 1997 to 2016 . This Unit is the largest referral center for the diagnosis of anemias , congenital and acquired. Research activity has been focused on the hereditary red blood cell defects (enzymopathies, hemoglobinopathies , membranopathies and CDA). He developed a fellowship in Paris,France (Haematology Department of Hôpital Beaujon) and in la Jolla California, USA (Scripps Research Institute, Department of Molecular and Experimental Medicine). Prof. Vives Corrons has published more than 600 professional papers and reviews and has edited three books on hematology and rare anemias.

Androulla Eleftheriou obtained her graduate and postgraduate degrees in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Virology, and Business Administration from the University of London and the University of Leicester, UK, receiving fellowships from the World Health Organization and the Fulbright Commission. Her postdoctoral studies were completed at the Centre for Disease Control in Atlanta, GA, USA. From 1990 until August 2006, she was Head of the Virus Reference Centre of the Cyprus Ministry of Health. Since 2006 she serves as the Executive Director of the Thalassaemia International Federation, after 13 years of being a volunteer and Scientific Coordinator of the Federation’s renowned educational programme. Dr Eleftheriou is an expert patient advocate, having attended seminars on Patient Advocacy offered by the Harvard University in Boston, MA, USA. She served as Member of the Board of Directors of IAPO, EPHA, President of the Cyprus Alliance for Rare Disorders and participated in several committees and bodies (EUCERD, ESTM, SITA) as both a scientist and patient advocate.

Zühre Kaya, MD, is a Professor of Paediatric Haematology in the Department of Paediatrics at the Medical School of Gazi University in Ankara, Turkey. Dr Kaya earned her medical degree at the Medical School of Gazi University, where she also completed her residency in paediatrics and a fellowship in paediatric haematology. She received further training in several countries, including as a clinical observer and trainee in bone marrow transplantation at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine/ UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. She also earned her master degree about tumour immunology at the Cancer Institute of Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in Ankara. She is currently working at Department of paediatric haematology in Medical School of Gazi University, Ankara, Turkey.

Yanzhen Wan has her expertise in clinical finding and evaluation of new diagnostic biomarkers. She has found that D-dimer combined with CRP could be identified as suitable biomarkers for differentiating between simple and other severe appendicitis, which will provide important guidance for clinicians to determine the follow-up management of acute appendicitis. And in another research, she concluded that Serum ChE level could be identified as a potential simple, rapid, convenient, non-invasive and inexpensive biomarker for differentiating between GC and benign gastric dis-eases. This will help physicians predict the probability of GC and determine whether further invasive examinations should be performed.
